Monday Makeovers: Nail Buffing the Alternative to Nail Polish

July 30, 2012

Over the last few weeks I’ve been skipping the nail salon and started buffing my nails instead. I have to tell you, I’m enjoying the freedom of not having to spend money on a manicure every week. My nails seem to be a little bit stronger and my nail beds are definitely brighter.

I’m a minimalist if you haven’t already figured that out and buffing my nails falls right in line with my simplistic lifestyle. No more am I worried about chipped nail polish or the hidden dangers of the toxins in nail polish or gel nail polish. I’m also learning to appreciate the natural beauty of my hands and feet.

If you enjoy your visits to the nail salon for the pure relaxation and spa-like treatment, by all means keep going, they also offer a nail buff service. Warning: They will charge you a little bit extra for this service.

However, if you want to do this on your own just buy yourself one of these:

Four step Nail Buffer - Sephora

The sides are usually numbered, so you know the order in which to use them. Be sure not to over buff nails as this could weaken your nails in the long run and potentially expose your fingers to bacteria. Buffing your nails once a week is plenty.

My nail polish days are not completely behind me, but you can bet I won’t be frequenting the nail salon as often. What are your thought’s about nail buffing? Are you willing to give it a try? Tell me what you think in the comments below.
